Anna University is one of India's premier engineering Universities. Established in 1978, it offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and Allied Sciences. It integrated four well-known technical institutions in the city of Chennai, the oldest of which was the College of Engineering, Guindy, started in 1794. In December 2001, it was converted into an affiliating university, with almost all engineering colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu under its fold and also absorbing all the six government engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu as its constituent colleges. The University with its infrastructure facilities has started growing, raising to the standards of Higher Education and has worldwide recognition in the field of Engineering, Technology and Applied Sciences.
Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DCSE), formerly known as School of Computer Science and Engineering, was carved out of the School of Electronics and Communication Engineering in September 1987. DCSE function as one of the University Department having academic autonomy of having its own syllabus and curriculum. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in various disciplines of Computer Science & Engineering. The Department functions under the Faculty of Information and Communication Engineering. Dr.K.S. Easwarakumar is currently the Head of the Department. The Department imparts world class training and research. The Department provides state of the art computing facilities to the students. It also promotes active industry-institute collaboration by identifying areas of interest and taking part in sponsored research projects and consultancy services. Some of the major research areas which the faculty members and students working on are Networks, Database, Theoretical Computer Science, Multimedia, Image Processing, Software Engineering and Data Mining. 
The theme of the national workshop on Network Security Smart and Secure Environment is to bring together researchers, mathematicians, engineers and practitioners interested on security aspects related to information and communication. It synergizes various sub-areas of research: adaptation of system operations to the network resources & environment conditions towards E-learning, improved utilization of computer power, protecting critical infrastructure, reliable communications between end-points in the presence of failures, and mitigation of the problem towards security aspects. The one day program will consist of paper presentations, discussions and project demonstrations.
